Lori Berenson is a young reporter arrested by the Peruvian government. Although an American citizen, Lori has been condemned for "treason against the fatherland of Peru" and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Peru hasn't offered any evidence that Lori did anything wrong. She was not allowed to cross-examine the government witnesses, nor to present evidence in her own defence. A hooded tribunal of military officers, with no legal training and a documented 97% conviction rate, tried and condemned her. To do so, Peru had to break four binding international treaties on legal rights, and even their own constitution. Lori is now sitting in a frigid prison high in the Andes, with no windows and no heat; her hands have turned purple.
