On December 7, 1975 Indonesia invaded East Timor. It subsequently passed a law on July 17, 1976 proclaiming East Timor as the 27th province of Indonesia. This annexation has not been recognized by the United Nations but Indonesia continues to subjugate the East Timorese people. It is estimated that 200,000 East Timorese have been killed by Indonesian bullets, bombs and policies.
